The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Offong Offor, yesterday refused to appear before the state House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture Chaired by Member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Prince Ubong Attah.

The meeting according to Prince Attah was for the committee to interface and deliberate on activities in the agriculture sector, especially on the activities in the Central Abattoir.

Displaying his disappointment and that of his committee members over the refusal of the commissioner to honour the invitation, Attah said the meeting would have afforded members opportunity to look at the distributions of farming inputs for the two planting seasons of 2024.

Attah who waited for two and a half hours with other committee members, stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was supposed to be transparent and accountable to the citizens and the people of the State over Government's policies and programmes.

He announced that further legislative action would be taken against the Commissioner, stressed that the committee had earlier sent letters to the commissioner to appear before it for four times without any reply by the commissioner.

It is on record that most Commissioners in Akwa Ibom State are fond of not honouring House Committees who are empowered by the constitution to oversight their ministries.

Some who tries to honour such invitation always send representatives.
