A bill seeking to establish Akwa Ibom State Aviation Training Institute scaled through second reading on the floor of State House of Assembly on Thursday.
This followed the presentation of the lead debate on the general principles of the bill by the sponsor, Hon Lawrence Udoide (Ini State Constituency) during plenary.
Titled: Akwa Ibom State Aviation Training Institute (Establishment) Law, the bill seeks to provide courses of training, research and development in relevant fields in the aviation industry.
Leading the debate, Udoide said that the bill sought to provide full-time courses in various specialisations in the aviation industry and to make provision for the general administration of the college and related matters.
The lawmaker said the institute seeks to leverage on the state's success story in the aviation sector by complementing the vision behind the establishment of the Victor Attah International Airport which is adjudged one of the best airports in the country.
Udoide, who hailed former Governor Victor Attah for the vision behind the airport, commended Governor Umo Eno for laying the foundation for the development of the aviation village.
The Ini Lawmaker, said the establishment of the Aviation College would be of immense benefit to the state, as it would help to train people in installation, maintenance and operation of technical equipment which would likely to increase the margin of operational safety of civil and commercial aircraft services; related fields.
Speaking in favor of the bill, member representing, Oron/Udung Uko, Hon. Kenim Onofiok, Member for Urue-offong Oruko State Constituency, Hon. Precious Selong said the institute will create employment for the teeming youth in state
In his remarks, Speaker of the House , Udeme Otong, referred the bill to the House Committee on Education to report back in one month .
