AKSG TO ADAPT MULTI DIMENSIONAL APPROACH TO RURAL DEVELOPMENT

The Akwa Ibom State Government is adapting a multi dimensional approach to rural development.

Part of such approaches carried out through the Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperatives includes interventions in access roads, agricultural development and empowering the people through cooperative groups.

In a bid to extend the reach and amplify the positive impact in these rural communities, the Bureau is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Interacting with a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with a view to seeking possible areas of collaboration, the Hon. Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mrs Ekemini Umoh, lauded the Federal Government for its interest in developing lives at the grassroots.

Mrs Umoh said investments in Agriculture and supporting collaborative investments in business ventures through cooperative development has yielded several positive results as more people at the grass roots now have a decent and reasonable means of livelihood.

She enumerated several other achievements of the Akwa Ibom State Government in  Rural Development and Cooperatives sector and expressed the hope that the partnership will yield greater results and compliment the completion agenda of the Emmanuel Administration.

The Special Adviser also outlined Government's plan for riverine communities in the state noting that the Emmanuel Administration's approach to development is strategic and all encompassing.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Peter Umanah, said the visit was to seek possible areas of collaborations highlighting agriculture as a strategic area of interest.

He noted that the Federal Government was not just focusing on individual farmers but through cooperative groups so as to have a wider reach. Dr. Umanah presented a copy of the publication from FMARD highlighting activities carried out by the Ministry, to the Hon. Special Adviser.

Also present during the visit were Heads of Directorate in the Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperatives.
