The former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State, Senator James Akpan Udoedehe, has debunked insinuations that he always sells his gubernatorial ambition for financial gains.
Udoedehe made the remarks during a media chat with journalists at his Uyo residence on Thursday, 21 May 2026 (sic), where he declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Udoedehe, who also contested the last general election under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), stressed that no government in Akwa Ibom State, past or present, can pay him N100 million to compromise his vision for a better Akwa Ibom State.
He dismissed allegations that he could be financially induced by any government or political actor to undermine opposition forces in the state.
In his words: “I have never sold elections to anyone. There is no government in Akwa Ibom State, past or present, that can pay me N100 million to compromise. If they attempt it, they will only be empowering their enemy.”
Speaking on his intention to join the 2027 gubernatorial election under the ADC, he said he was driven by the need to provide credible leadership and offer residents a viable political alternative anchored on integrity, accountability, and development.
Udoedehe, who is also the leader of the ADC in the state, added that despite never occupying the office of governor, he had achieved personal success. He stressed that his ambition was motivated by a desire to address hunger, unemployment, hardship, and other socio-economic challenges in the state.
“I have all I need in life, including cars, houses, and other things. I am coming into this election for my people and the growth of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
