Speaking during the Monthly Press Briefing on Monday, December 1, the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, announced the Governor’s approval for the payment of the 13th-month salary, christened ‘Enomber’, to all state public servants.

Umanah, who was flanked by his colleague from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Udofia; the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerette Udoh; and the Delivery Advisor to the Governor, Sir Charles Udoh, said Governor Umo Eno recently commissioned the fully equipped General Hospital at Ikot Akpankuk, Ukanafun—the first functional hospital in the area since 1976. The facility, delivered with a 2.2km access road and support infrastructure, is complemented by the government’s re-engagement of retired health workers to bolster manpower and sustain reforms.

He said infrastructure and tourism development witnessed accelerated focus, with construction commencing on the CNG Bus Station and the Oron Maritime Infrastructure. The period also saw strengthened transparency measures, the review of the Aviation Village Project, and the commencement of a broadcast infrastructure upgrade for the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation.

The state secured deeper partnerships in housing and the oil sector, marked by the groundbreaking for the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate at Ekpene Ukim and participation in the Sail Away Ceremony for the EMEM FPSO operated by Oriental Energy Resources.

Umanah noted that the Governor also conducted inspections of key projects across Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, including the remodeled Cottage Hospital, a Model Primary School, and the Nsit Ubium–Eket Road, directing contractors to expedite work during the dry season.

Capping a month of robust governance, Governor Eno presented a ₦1.39 trillion “People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth” to the House of Assembly. The budget, with a 75% capital expenditure allocation, reflects a 16% reduction from the revised 2025 budget and is derived from citizen needs identified during Town Hall meetings across the state’s ten federal constituencies.

In agriculture, the Governor inspected ongoing renovations at AKADEP, now repositioned under the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to drive the Agricultural Business Unit and lead the State’s Tree Crop Revolution for rural wealth creation.

Commenting on the Christmas Unplugged event, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Udofia, and Delivery Advisor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, promised a richer, more innovative experience with improved economic returns, while the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom Hotels and Tourism Board, Mrs. Ime Udo, urged the media to sustain positive projection of the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, commended Governor Eno for fostering political reconciliation, prioritising the welfare of the poor, and clearing outstanding gratuities.

He, however, cautioned journalists against blackmail and practices that undermine societal harmony.
