Nsit Ubium Community benefits from free medical outreach, distribution of mosquito nets

No fewer than 70 residents of Nsit Ubium local government area have benefitted from a free surgical operation sponsored by member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency, Barr Otobong Bob.
The 3-day medical outreach which commenced on Thursday February 13, 2025 at Primary Health center Ikot Edibon as also witnessed the treatment of over 930 residents from all kinds of sickness and distribution of free eyeglasses and distribution of mosquito treated nets to women.
Speaking during the flag-off exercise, the sponsor, Rt. Hon Otobong Bob, said the outreach was his way of giving his constituents a Valentine gift that will last by making health care accessible to those who cannot afford hospital bills.
Bob noted the outreach will also afford them opportunity to be enrolled in Arise Health Insurance Scheme.
"I wanted to give my constituents a gift that truly matters this Valentine. This is why we ensured that beyond this outreach, many of them are now covered for a lifetime under the ARISE health insurance scheme".
He used the occasion to extend his gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for empowering lawmakers to be able to reach out to their constituents and assured that the initiative covers both indigenes and residents with need for critical healthcare services at no cost.
In his goodwill message, the political of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, expressed happiness over the sacrifice and selflessness of the member, who incidentally is his son for the concern he has for his constituents.
He dismissed the notion that deaths are always the work of witches and wizards, noting that some illnesses are preventable, but lack funds has made people not get proper medical attention.
“What I have seen here today tells me that many lives can be saved if people have access to medical care. Otobong Bob has spent so much to make this possible, and I am happy that it is for the good of the people,”.
Also speaking, the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Udeme Otong, represented by Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Kufreabasi Edidem, described Otobong Bob as an asset to the 8th Assembly.
“Nsit Ubium has given us a true representative. Despite his privileged background, he remains humble and fully committed to his people. No one can estimate the number of lives being saved here".
Giving an overview of the medical outreach, the team lead and a Senior Medical Consultant at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr. James Etiemana, who led the medical team, lauded Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Care Initiative for strengthening healthcare in the state and commended Otobong Bob for extending that vision to his people, describing him as a “health-friendly lawmaker.”
According to him, over 980 patients have been treated, 283 prescription glasses distributed, and more than 70 surgeries, including procedures on children, successfully conducted.
He also revealed that, beyond medical treatment, the lawmaker facilitated the registration of 1,500 constituents into the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme.
Other stakeholders who during the flag-off exercise poured encomium on the lawmaker for bringing hope to his people and prayed for grace to do more for his people.
The event had political stakeholders including, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem; Uyo Senatorial District Political Leader, Senator Effiong Bob; House Leader, Hon. Sunday Johnny; lawmakers from Uyo, Ini, Eket, Nsit Ibom, and other constituencies; council chairmen, commissioner nominees, PDP stalwarts, and community leaders in attendance.
