The Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Ubong Nkutt, has presented his administration’s achievements during the first 100 days in office.

Speaking during a media parley in his office on Monday, he stressed that he has made success in key areas such as infrastructure, education, health and youth empowerment.

Nkutt noted the poor condition of healthcare facilities upon assuming office, disclosing that his administration conducted an assessment of health centers, which led to the restoration of water facilities at Mbak Attai in order to improve the sanitary conditions for both patients and staff.

He said his administration recently supported an indigent who needed to undergo hydrocele and hernia operation.

"My administration has supported healthcare by funding different kinds of medical issues. On Friday last week, we intervened in the health need of a 4-year-old child who suffered from hydrocele and hernia. The boy successfully underwent hydrocelectomy and herniorrhaphy fully funded by this administration therefore providing hope and relief to the boy and his family. Additionally, we are operating a retainership arrangement with a medical facility in Uyo and in Itu to continue to assist residents with medical bills and healthcare needs".

On Infrastructure Development, Nkutt who took media practitioners around the council premises, said his administration was working diligently to enhance the physical infrastructure of Itu, ensuring that the people benefit from efficient and functional government services.

He said the construction of a state-of-the-art one-storey administrative block which is 80% completed will address office space which will accommodate supervisors and special advisers and other staff of the council.

"The construction of a state-of-the-art one-storey administrative block that houses 22 offices, all en-suit,  is nearing completion. When completed, it will address office space shortages and improve operational efficiency within the Council.

Our commitment to improving governance is reflected in the completion of the renovation of the legislative offices, providing a conducive work environment for our councilors."

On youth empowerment, he noted that his administration is sponsoring some youth from the 11 wards in the area on heavy duty equipment and supporting them with monthly allowances throughout the period of their training which will help them become self reliant.

"We are committed to empowering the youths of Itu to become self-reliant and contribute positively to the society. We have initiated the sponsorship of 11 youths, one from each ward, for training in the operation of heavy-duty equipment. The training will commence on Monday next week at HEAVY DUTY EQUIPMENT ACADEMY TRAINEES (MPCSL), an affiliate of Earthmoving Equipment Double Axle Truck Owners/Operators Association (EMEDATOA) here in Uyo. This initiative will equip them with valuable skills for employment in the construction and engineering sectors."

Hon Nkutt who was flanked by the secretary of council, HoS and Leader of the Legislature said he has undertaken the renovation of the legislative chambers, installation of solar lights in the Secretariat complex.

He also said his administration has undertaken road grading across the 11 wards.

"We have embarked on the grading of internal roads across all 11 wards of Itu, improving accessibility and fostering development in our rural communities. We have ensured that each ward has at least one road measuring not less than 500 metres. Some wards have two or more based on needs assessment.

In addition to the ongoing road grading across Itu, my administration has intervened at the failed section of the Calabar-Itu highway, specifically the Enen Atai-Ikot Akpan Itam axis. While awaiting major reconstruction from higher levels of government, we facilitated filling of dangerous spots to improve road safety and reduce travel time for commuters".

In education, Nkutt emphasized his administration’s focus on improving education and revealed that his wife has already provided school uniforms, sandals, and writing materials to several primary and secondary schools in Itu.

"My wife is actively reaching out to identify additional schools and pupils in need, ensuring that more children have the necessary tools to succeed in their education.

He commended the state Governor Pastor Umo Eno for his dedication towards developing the state providing enabling environment for local government administration to thrive and promise to continue working tirelessly to fulfill his campaign promises and deliver the necessary changes that will improve the lives of residents.
