Uyo Chairman inaugurates Akpan Andem Market Traders' Welfare Association

Chairman of Uyo Local Government Transition Committee, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, has inaugurated the officials and members of Akpan Andem Market Traders’ Welfare Association in Uyo.

Dr. Udo, while performing the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday at the Council Secretariat, emphasized that the Traders’ Welfare Association had been established in accordance with Section 48(1) of the Local Government Administration Law 2017 (as amended).

Those inaugurated are: Patrick Okon Mendie - Chairman, Enamidem Udontre - Vice Chairman, Idongesit Moffat - Secretary, Kingsley Aka - Treasurer, and Joseph Willie - Financial Secretary.

Others are Mandu Essen - Woman Leader, Ime Emmanuel John - Member, Godwin Inyang - Adviser l, Emmanuel Bassey - Adviser ll, Godwin Jimmy - Adviser lll, and Idongesit Christopher - Adviser IV.

Dr. Udo said members of the association are entrusted with the task of uplifting the market and its traders, ensuring their welfare and success.


He noted that the officials would serve for the entirety of 2024, from January to December, with the aim of realizing the Uyo Local Government Transition Committee's vision and Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda.

While congratulating the newly appointed officials, the chairman urged them to work harmoniously with the Market Management Committee and other stakeholders to enhance the market's conditions.

He implored the officials to embrace fairness and inclusivity in their operations, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

“The market should be a haven for all, where decisions are made with the best interests of the people at heart”, Dr Udo stated.
