AKHA SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH NDDC FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTS

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has stressed the need for legislators to be acquainted with ongoing projects carried out by the Niger Delta Development Commission in the State which when completed will enhance the quality of life for the people and bring about sustainable development in the State.

The House of Assembly  made this known through its  Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) that paid a familiarisation visit to  the  State Office of the Commission on Tuesday October 31, 2023.

The Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem  stated that the essence of the visit was to acquaint the Committee with the workings and operations of the organisation and reiterated that the commision's core mandate is to address ecological challenges peculiar to the State.

He commended NDDC for its positive impact on the lives of the people in the State and expressed the House of Assembly’s readiness to support urgent interventions where needed.

He specifically called for interventions in Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Ini and Ikono areas and emphasized the need for collaboration to establish synergy between the State and the commission.

In his remarks, the State Director of NDDC, Mr. Joseph Etiebet while expressing appreciation for the visit disclosed that the Commission has kick-started its budgeting process and further explained that the introduction of the budgeting process lays the cornerstone for essential partnership that will foster sustainable development in the state.

Mr. Etiebet who lamented the lack of interest from critical stakeholders, emphasized that the commission will continue to champion Public Private Partnership to source vital developmental projects and programmes.

"Without the buy-in of stakeholders, sustainable development of any kind remains a distant goal", he added

In their individual remarks, Members of the House Committee on NDDC echoed the necessity for the commission to identify areas that need urgent intervention and collaborate closely with legislators so as to provide ecological solutions to prevalent issues in the State.
