NEW GROUP EMERGES IN ORUK ANAM, PAYS COURTESY CALL ON SAMPSON IDIONG

A new Socio-cultural group known as Nto Oruk Development Union, NODU, has emerged in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The group after some months of consultative meetings, on Friday paid a courtesy call on their son and Deputy Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Sampson Idiong in his office in Uyo, the State capital.

Recall that Oruk Anam is made up of two traditional nations of Oruk and Anam. While the Anam comprises of Ibesit Nnung Ikot and Abak Midim Clans, the Oruk nation has 7 clans as follows: Inen, Nnung Ita, Ndot, Nung Ikot, Obio Akpa, Ibesit and Ekparakwa.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the Union, Mr Nnamso Idiong said NODU was formed with a clear vision of building a new disciplined/competent leadership for the unity, liberation and development of the Oruk people who incidentally are the majority in Oruk Anam LGA.

Noting that the union is opened to all sons and daughters of Oruk devoid of party affiliation, Idiong disclosed that the leadership of the group will extend the consultative visit to other major Stakeholders of Oruk while also promising to work with  government at all levels towards human capital development, youth empowerment and people oriented policies and programmes.

On behalf of the interim leadership and pioneer members of the Union, Mr Nnamso Idiong decorated the State law maker as the Pioneer Patron of NODU.

In his reaction, the member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Hon. Sampson Idiong applauded the initiative, describing it as long overdue. He thanked all members of the group for finding him worthy of the honour as the pioneer Patron.

The law maker while describing Oruk people as warriors who established an unprecedented political legacy dating back to the formation of the Southern Annang Development Union in 1934, promised to support the group surpass the legacies of her forebears.

"We all know that what is known as general hospital Ikot Okoro today, was the first community built hospital in this part of the country. Our forefathers also built schools and development centers, these are the records we must beat. As Oruk People, we posses the capacity for political exploit and socio-economic greatness.  I promise to support and work with you" Idiong stressed.

The deputy Chief Whip while stressing that the union will do more than dolling out scholarships, admonished the leadership of NODU to consult more stakeholders and open up the membership to all interested sons and daughters of Oruk nation irrespective of Political party affiliation..

Others who in their respective remarks commended the law maker for a perfect start and promised to work towards the unity and development of the Oruk People include, Oruk Anam Secretary of council, Hon. Emmanuel Enang, Obong Iberedem Oruk Anam, High Chief Richard Raymond, PDP women leader of Oruk Anam, Hon. Mrs Grace Ikpong and protein PRO of the group, Hon. Kufre Eshiet.
