The Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed has vowed to stop cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery in Eket Local Government Area of the state.
Ahmed made the vow while visiting Eket Community and Eket Local Government Secretariat on Wednesday in Eket.
He said that the Police Command would get rid of criminal elements in the Local Government and it's environ.
He added that sensitisation should be held to enlighten members of the public on why they should not be involved in cultism.
"We have some cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism in Eket. Most of the people involved in armed robbery and kidnapping started as cultist," he noted.
He appealed to the people of the community to give useful information and cooperate with security agencies in order to curb criminalities in the area.
"I want to assure you that every information you give to us, will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Security is a collective responsibility. Security is the business of everybody and exclusive preserve of all.
"One of the strategies we had adopted in fighting criminality is partnership with sister agencies and robust synergy with members of the public, and with the philosophy of community policing," Ahmed said.
Ahmed said that the police would continue to protect life and properties of the citizenry in Eket and it's communities.
He noted that crime could be solveed when there is active participation from the members of the public saying that there can never be peace and prosperity without security.
Earlier, CPS Umar Kadiri, the Divisional Police Officer in Eket said that Eket is growing geopolitically and because of the existing oil company, it leads to high rate of crime in the area.
He noted that most crimes in Eket are cultism, abduction and phone snatching using knife and local made pistols.
Kadiri however, said the cooperation of neighborhood watch, involvement of youths leaders and vigilante members in intelligent gathering had been rewarding towards community policing.
He lamented that Eket Division has no functional or serviceable patrol vehicles, shortage of manpower and lack of serviceable arms and other working tools.
In his remarks, Mr Frank Archibong, the Chairman of Eket local government decried incessant redeployment of Divisional Police Officers in Eket, Akwa Ibom.
Archibong restated it commitment to partner the Police to fight and reduce cultism to its barest minimum in Eket and it's environs.
He appealed to the Commissioner of Police to provide additional Division in Eket to curb existing crime activities in the area.
He also appealed to the Commissioner of Police to relocate Area Command away from Divisional Police Headquarters in order to spread the security to other locations in Eket.
Archibong called on the police to redefined security Architecture of Eket local government area of the state.
