Chairman of the Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, Mr. Samuel Nteogwuijah, and women of the area, on Wednesday, lauded Governor Umo Eno for his inclusive leadership and commitment to rural infrastructure projects, including those currently underway in the area.
Mr Nteogwuijah, the member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo state constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Selina Ukpatu; a former lawmaker, Hon. Aboh Uduyok, and other stakeholders spoke as they received the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and other women leaders who were in Eastern Obolo for the women sensitisation tour on civic responsibilities.
The described Eastern Obolo as peaceful and supportive of the governor’s vision, noting visible strides in road construction, model schools, and compassionate homes.
“We appreciate the love shown to Eastern Obolo”, Nteogwuijah said, adding that “the governor has demonstrated commitment through infrastructure and social welfare projects. We are ready to reciprocate that goodwill”.
The Women Sensitization Tour on Civic Responsibility in Easten Obolo drew a large gathering of women leaders, stakeholders, and community members who convened in a show of unity and renewed political awareness.
The event, designed to deepen civic consciousness and promote grassroots participation, carried a strong message of empowerment, infrastructure development, and cooperative advancement under the administration of Umo Eno.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi commended the unity displayed by Eastern Obolo women and reiterated the state government’s commitment to equitable development.
She pointed to ongoing road projects, some of which had remained in budget plans for decades, as evidence of deliberate leadership. She assured the gathering that more projects would be executed based on documented community needs.
While setting the tone for the engagement, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Inibehe Silas Etukudoh, conveyed the governor’s appreciation to the women of Eastern Obolo for their support in the last election and urged them to remain active participants in governance.
She emphasised the importance of civic responsibility, encouraging women to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), National Identification Numbers (NIN), and other relevant documents.
She also highlighted the deployment of medical team to attend to women’s health needs and introduced the cooperative empowerment initiative aimed at strengthening women economically.
According to her, each of the 10 wards in Eastern Obolo is expected to operate a functional cooperative named “ARISE Cooperative” aligning with the administration’s broader ARISE Agenda.
The Special Adviser, Bureau of Cooperative Development, Rt. Hon. Alice Ekpeyong, described the governor’s emergence in 2023 as a “seed sown by the people” that is now yielding dividends.
She explained that the cooperative framework would provide women with access to funding opportunities to support small businesses, education of children, and financial stability.
Speakers at the event repeatedly referenced the transformation narrative of “United Akwa Ibom,” underscoring peace and unity as catalysts for economic growth, safety, and investor confidence.
They noted that infrastructure such as model schools, healthcare facilities, and compassionate homes reflects the social investment priorities embedded in the ARISE Agenda.
Several goodwill messages from community leaders and party stakeholders echoed support for sustained development and continued civic participation.
The atmosphere remained celebratory yet focused on responsibility, particularly mobilizing women in riverine and creek communities to engage actively in governance processes.
Observers say the strong turnout in Eastern Obolo people during the occasion signals growing grassroots engagement, especially among women, whose role in shaping political and economic outcomes continues to expand across the state.
