The Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC) recently held a crucial meeting with gas retailers in Uyo to sensitize stakeholders on the importance of safety protocols and regulatory compliance within the sector
Chairman Godwin Ekpo stressed the importance of educating retailers on potential dangers and prerequisites for sighting retail outlets to prevent disasters. "This meeting is imperative to ensure that gas retailers operate safely and responsibly," he stated.
The Chairman also announced plans by the committee to establish a comprehensive database of all gas retailers in the state, adding that this database will facilitate better monitoring and regulation of the industry, ultimately reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring public safety.
Secretary Peggy Edoho welcomed this development, noting that this initiative will empower retailers with the knowledge to take necessary precautions and prevent disasters.
Representatives from two associations, Akwa Ibom Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association (AKILPGRA) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers (LPGAR) Branch of NUPENG Akwa Ibom State Chapter praised the committee's efforts, for taking proactive steps to ensure safety and compliance within the industry, while pledging their support and cooperation.
