The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly ( AKHA) has waded into restore dilapidated classroom blocks at the Government Primary School, Midim Waterside, in Abak LGA.

This follows a Motion sponsored by the Member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, at Plenary on Thursday.
Rt. Hon. Idung, noted with regret that many classroom blocks at Government Primary School, Midim Water Side are currently in a deplorable state, with leaking roofs, cracked walls, broken windows and dilapidated furniture.
"These conditions hinder the ability of pupils to focus on their studies, dampen their morale and discourage teachers from giving their best.
"The current state of the classroom blocks at the school poses serious safety risk to the pupile and staff. The structural integrity of these buildings have been compromised and at the risk of immediate collapse, particularly during rainfall", hence said.
While acknowledging the state government's investment in education, Rt. Hon. Idung, appealed that Government Primary School, Midim Waterside, Abak LGA, be given priority attention in the ongoing efforts by Governor Umo Eno to transform education in the state.
The Motion was supported by Hon. Selinah Ukpatu (Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo), Hon. Moses Essien (Ibiono Ibom), Hon. Udobia Friday (Esit Eket/Ibeno) and Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob (Nsit Ubium) and other Members of the House.
Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, was optimistic that in the next phase of public schools rehabilitation in Abak Local Government Area by the State
Government, Midim Water Side Government Primary School would be accommodated.
His words: " iam very sure that in the next six months Government Primary School, Midim Water Side will be touched by the State Government."
He directed the Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. NsikakAbasi Orok to write Governor Umo Eno, to order immediate renovation of the Primary School.
Also at Plenary, the House ratified a Report of its Committee on Economic Planning and Development, on the Adjustment made in the Approved 2024-2026-2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
In the meantime, the House has adjourned its plenary, to reconvene on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 10am.
