The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has expressed deep appreciation for the bold strides taken by Governor Umo Eno in expanding the infrastructural landscape of the State, noting that the administration has continued to meet critical milestones since assuming office.
The University Don-turned politician who dropped the hint yesterday at a joint press conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo, took time to reel out the impressive accomplishments of the Umo Eno-led administration in the area of road construction and infrastructure development. He emphasized the Governor's commitment to ensuring the speedy completion of both inherited and newly flagged-off projects.
His words: "In line with the ARISE Agenda, this administration has embarked on infrastructural expansion, making strategic investments that will benefit the state in both the short and long term.
"Since May 29, 2023, when His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno assumed office, over N208.16 billion has been injected into road and infrastructure projects. This includes projects inherited from the previous administration as well as those initiated under the ARISE Agenda."
On inherited projects, the Commissioner said that Governor Eno administration has so far pumped N47.93 billion into thirty-six projects that were initiated by past governments. Another N4.04 billion has gone into fifty-one emergency intervention projects, bringing the total expenditure on inherited projects to N51.96 billion.
Underlining the commitment of the current administration to continuity and completing these projects, Prof Ibanga noted that the Governor remains dedicated to delivering on all fronts, regardless of whether the projects were inherited or newly initiated.
Turning his focus to the ARISE Agenda, the former Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) hinted that a total of sixty-one (61) projects had been flagged off by Governor Eno, with some of them already completed and others nearing completion.
Hear him: "The Akpan Andem Market, the Amphitheatre at the Christmas Village Arena, the Atiku Abubakar underground tunnel, and the Goretti Secondary School Road among others are all completed projects which have been commissioned."
The Mkpat Enin born Academic disclosed that N151.66 billion has already been spent on fifty ARISE Agenda projects, while N4.54 billion has been channeled into eleven emergency intervention projects under the same initiative, revealing that, N156.20 billion has been invested in the ARISE Agenda alone.
Providing updates on ongoing and recently awarded road projects, Prof Ibanga revealed that work on the critical Tabernacle Road was ongoing, though slightly delayed due to the relentless rains experienced in the state this year. He explained that excavation work required for the road was particularly challenging due to the need to dig at least eleven meters deep.
The Works Boss also pointed out that the presence of heavy-duty trucks on intra-city roads had caused significant damage to alternative routes like Ikpa Road and Uyo Village Road. However, he assured that the administration, in its responsive manner, had swiftly awarded contracts for the repair and reconstruction of these roads.
The professor of solid state physics/materials science divulged that in coming weeks, Governor Eno will inaugurate a series of strategic road projects, including the 6.97km Ukpana-Akpabom-Ikwe road in ONNA and Mkpat Enin LGA, 2.45km internal roads at Block G, Anua Ifa Ikot Okpon Housing Estate in Uyo, 10.519km Mkpat Enin-Ikot Ubo-Nkitara Road in Mkpat Enin/Ikot Abasi LGA, 4.95km Ekparakwa-Ntak Ibesit Road in Oruk Anam LGA, and the 22.75km Ikot Ekaide-Ikot Okoro-Ibritam Road with two bridges in Oruk Anam LGA.
The Commissioner, while assuring the timely completion of all road projects as the rainy season comes to an end, took the opportunity to rally massive support for the Governor and the ARISE Agenda. He also emphasized his Ministry's commitment to delivering efficiently in accordance with international standards.
Meanwhile, the press conference was attended by the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong; the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Obong (Dr.) Prince Ikim; the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerette Udoh; the Governor’s Media Consultant, Hon.
