House Committee Inspects Construction work at Akpan Andem Market

Members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport have paid a visit to Akpan Andem market to see the pace of work at the ongoing construction of internal roads within the market.

Speaking at the construction sites on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the Chairman of the Committee, Rt Hon Otobong Bob, said the committee was satisfied with the quality of work already executed by the firm handling the project and advised them not to relent.

He said: “This project is one of the first projects the Governor will commissioned, from what I have seen, I am impressed by the commitment and seriousness the Contractor in completing this job."



Bob who represents Nsit Ubium state Constituency and Deputy Leader of the House, commended the Governor for being a "Promise Keeper" and the stressed that the committee will all always perform its oversight function by making sure monies appropriated by the House are utilised effectively to the benefit of the citizens.

Reacting to agitation by people living in Johnson Street for the construction of the remaining portion of the road, the lawmaker said the Committee would make appropriate recommendations for the construction of the road.

Recieving the committee members at the site, MD of Hensek Integrated Service, Engr Uwem Okoko, said the projects were ready for commissioning and thanked the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for being people oriented.
He said the road will ease movement within the area, noting that the drainage system will aide in deflooding the area.

Toilet ready for commissioning


Conducting members round the market, Okoko said the internal roads were standard and that the market has 40 toilets and solar powered borehole with 20000 litre capacity water tank. 

In their remarks, members of the committee thanked the Governor for awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the road, provision of solar lights, water and toilets which they said will go along way in minimizing difficulties encountered by traders.
 

 

It could be recalled that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno had on June 22, 2023 flagged off the construction of Ndiya Street, Internal roads, drainages, and installation of solar lighting in Akpan Andem market, in Uyo, the state capital.

Committee members present during the inspection include: Rt Hon. Otobong Bob - Chairman, Hon Uwem Imo-Ita - Deputy Chairman, Hon Lawrence Udoide, Hon Uduak Ekpo-Ufot, Hon Aniefiok Attah, Hon Selina Ukpatu, Hon Prince Ukpong Akpabio, Hon Uwemedimo Asuquo, Hon. Udobia Friday and Rt Hon. Nana Asuquo Udo.
