AKHA Seeks Urgent Rehabilitation Of Nung Ukim - Ukwok Road

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, tasked the state government on the urgent need to rescue Ukwok community in Ini Local Government Area from being cut off and separated from Akwa Ibom State.

This was part of the motion sponsored by Hon Lawrence Udoide who solicited for the House intervention.
 
Udoide who represent Ini State Constituency, observed that Nung Ukim - Ukwok road was one of the important road networks in the area that links other communities together.
 
"Nung Ukim – Ukwok Road one of the most important road networks in Ini Local Government Area with Okon River which links the Aba Itiat and Atan communities with Nung Ukim, Ikot Idut, Usuk Ukwok has finally become a dead trap for the people and has brought life to a complete stall".
 
"The situation above has occasioned serious hardship to the people; farmers cannot convey their farm produce to the market; schools are closed; hospital and health clinics cannot be accessed; pregnant women are compelled to patronize traditional birth attendants; life expectancy is low; morbidity and mortality rates are high. People are helpless and hope is far from sight without prompt intervention by our amiable Governor in the ARISE AGENDA".
 
"Also Worried that the local bridge, here before described, having been dilapidated and washed away by flood has separated the people from commercial and social interaction. The people now, feel estranged in their own state", he noted.
 
In the bid to alleviate the suffering by the communities, the House urge the state government to direct appropriate remedial measures to be taken in order to ameliorate and rescue the affected communities.
In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Udeme Otong referred the matter to the committee on Works & Transport and Committee on Rural Development & Public Utility for an on the spot assessment and to report back to House within two weeks.
