EXXONMOBIL CORPORATION NOT FAIR TO HOST COMMUNITY AND AK STATE- Hon. Ekanem Willie

A former vice chairman of Eket LGA and a community leader,Hon. Ekanem Willie has accused ExxonMobil of not being fair to her host community in terms of development of the area.
Hon. Ekanem Willie who is also a former board member with AK Agency for control of HIV/AIDS(AKSACA) and a PR professional made the assertion recently in a media chat with some selected journalist in Eket.
He stated that ExxonMobil has failed in her corporate Social responsibility (CSR) and went further to say that the role of corporations in some clime rivals national, state and local govt."In 2000,it was reported that,of the 100 largest economic organizations in the world,51 were corporations and 49 were countries. General motors,Walmart, Exxon, and Daimler Chrysler are all ranked higher than the national economy of Poland,Norway, Finland and Thailand (in terms of economic size, comparing corporate revenues with national gross domestic product,or GDP)."Hon. Willie quoted from a source.
For citizens living in communities that plays host to corporation like ExxonMobil, the corporation is arguably suppose to be the most important form of social organization or government. At the opposite extreme, for citizens who have been harmed physically or financially by corporations, like the Eket and Ibeno residents whose beaches were fouled by massive oil spills, the corporation can seem as dangerous as an invading army,or as  destructive as an earthquake.

ExxonMobil as a corporation with the negative impact of their environmental actions or being environmental unfriendly should take corporate social responsibility (CSR) seriously than often blame government.Gas flares are killing crops, polluting water and damaging human health.

When asked whether it was true Mobil gives N30b to the state government yearly for development, Hon. Willie said such statement cannot be taken seriously as ExxonMobil cannot raise such statement through a proxy rather it should come from a policy maker of the organization for them to be taken seriously.

Hon. Ekanem Willie express confidence in the government of Gov. Udom Emmanuel and assured Akwa Ibom people that the governor Will not leave the state in 2023 the same way he met it.
