As president Buhari inaugurates his second term cabinet on Wednesday, the political space of Akwa Ibom state have been dominated by discussions over the portfolio that would be assigned to the state.
Some have also argued whether Senator Godswill Akpabio would perform well as a Minister than as a Lawmaker.
However some of Akpabio's close associates and supporters have expressed the opinion that he would perform very well in any leadership position he found himself having in various capacities at the state and national levels.
They further argued that Akpabio would make a remarkable difference in any portfolio that is assigned to him by Mr. President
A socio-political group in the state, Friends of Godswill Akpabio, Eket Federal Constituency Chapter, averred that his selection among other nominees from the state indicates that the Presidency found Akpabio as a capable and competence leader to be part of the Federal Executive Council.
The group at its General Congress, held in Uyo expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for seeing reasons to appoint
Akpabio into his second term cabinet.
Chairman of the group, Engr. Inyang Itrechio who spoke during the meeting described the selection of Godswill Akpabio as putting a square peg in square hole.
He expressed the optimism that Akpabio will make Akwa Ibom proud as a minister.
"The performance of Senator Akpabio in the attainment of economic growth, human and infrastructural development, during his reign as Commissioner, Governor and Senator, shows it is only appropriate that he (Akpabio) was given another opportunity to serve.
On his part, the Patron of the Group, Dr David Benjamin, he has the confidence that Akpabio will not only perform in the portfolio that will be assigned to, but also contribute his ideas in actualizing the next level agenda of Mr. President.
"Akpabio' did well as a Senator. He did well in Executive positions at the state level. As a minister I have no doubt that he will make meaningful contributions that will help this government to succeed.
"Akpabio is going to make a great difference at the federal Executive Council we don't have doubt about given his track record. And we are happy about his appointment", He asserted
